The following is a guest post by Tim Mahoney, Director of Education, Troon Golf.
The biggest myth in golf instruction is that you need to shift your weight during the backswing and downswing. A weight shift moves the swing bottom during the swing motion—creating a low point that changes from shot to shot. Because the No. 1 objective for Troon Golf Academy students is to become more consistent, we work on one shared fundamental of all great ball strikers: staying centered over the ball during the backswing and downswing. By establishing a proud posture at address and simply turning around this posture during the swing, you’ll align the swing bottom on the target side of the ball, guaranteeing solidness of the hit.
